Southwell Town Council by-Election John LIGHTWOOD
John will be the Liberal Democrats' Candidate for the Town Council by-election on May 6th.
A resident of North Ward for nearly sixteen years, John has appreciated the work and encouragement offered by Town Councillors, particularly during the pandemic.
He is keen to help the recovery and make the most of new opportunities to improve the Town's Environment.
John has previously campaigned to slow traffic though the town, to establish a Zebra crossing outside Lowes Wong School and build a footpath on Kirklington Road.
As the Director of a local business, John is very conscious of the difficulties faced by the Town's retailers. He would seek to instigate and support initiatives to maintain the unique nature of our high street so that our independent shops continue to thrive.
With over thirty years in travel and tourism, John is keen to offer advice and support for events and programmes for both residents and visitors to the town.
As a Councillor, John would campaign to make Southwell an even better place to live.
● Revamp play and Leisure facilities throughout the town to encourage better physical and mental wellbeing.
● Improve road safety by creating new footpaths, crossing and safe cycle routes particularly for the school run to and from Lowes Wong and The Minster schools.
● Promote green initiatives to improve the local environment including more recycling, tree planting and EV charging points to tackle climate change.
● Help the town's businesses and traders bounce back quickly from the COVID pandemic, encouraging more local shopping and revitalising the Saturday market.
