Support for Southwell Shopping

December 28, 2018 2:38 PM

Southwell Kings Street

In 2008, Conservative Councillors were pressing for parking charges to be introduced throughout the District. Concerned about the impact on local shops, District Cllr Peter Harris and Liberal Democrat Town Councillors negotiated a deal for two hour free parking in Southwell. In Newark, full charges apply in most car parks.

Our survey reveals that most residents still go into town at least once a week to shop. The Co-op and convenience stores are the most visited but many shops including the Post Office are regularly used. This is in marked contrast to Newark where there is a growing number of empty shops.
