What are the Government's Priorities over School Funding?

Good news that Newark's schools are beginning to improve. After years of decline in the performance of all secondary schools in Newark a complete turnaround was urgently needed.

A key part of the problem was the "Lincolnshire Drift" where pupils who passed the 11+ were selected for Grammar Schools in Lincolnshire.

At times nearly 20 per cent of pupils were leaving Newark to study.

It required £25 million of Government funding and educational investment to break the downward spiral.
Odd then that the Government has now offered an extra £50 million to help the remaining 135 Grammar Schools in England to expand!

Meanwhile continued funding cuts mean schools in the Southwell area are set to lose £320,000 compared to funding levels in 2015-16.
It doesn't add up!
