Playing Politics with Social Care

Hitting families with substantial Council Tax rises year after year will not solve the social care problem.

Ten years ago a cross party finance agreement collapsed when the Conservatives called it a "Death Tax". In 2011 the independent Dilnot Report recommendations were not implemented. Last year the Conservative election social care plan failed after Labour dubbed it a "Dementia tax".

In January the Liberal Democrats published social care proposals from a committee of senior doctors, clinicians and a former head of the NHS. Norman Lamb, a former Lib Dem Health Minister, called for cross party talks to start. The Prime Minister rejected the proposal. WHY?
